Every employer wants to know whether the applicant fits into the corporate model, or possibly company could be harmful. Personnel departments now make more use of social media monitoring (Facebook & Co.) to obtain an unbiased picture of the applicant. Thus, a serious image by teasing,blasphemous or estates not desired behavior change, this image sustained massively.


Employers stalk on Facebook
Thereby the company puts not only internal resources, often there are pulled third-party to the side, which check the complete background of applicants. This is already done for some time by the company "Social Intelligence" in Santa Barbara, which offers this service for companies. At the end of the job the client is sent a comprehensive compilation.

What is in the Facebook compilation?
In the compilation you'll find everything good as bad, as far as the applicants. Whether these could be images of the last party, where one is drunk on the streets, photos of nude beach, or stored information, such as sympathizing with the political parties.


Is that even legal?
Because the data is for all public, or only for certain persons, are accessible, the user is in the due diligence. But often we learn nothing about such reports and will receive instead rejections, such as:

• "You have decided for someone else"


• "The competence profile of the rejected do not fit adequately to the requirements of the job position"

What the user can do?

We recommend to check the settings of the various social networking sites. This implies that the release of all elements of your page is checked, create access lists and add each individual user in a list. Reducing the clear view  to a minimum and do not accept friendship invitations from people, you do not know.

Of course, this is no 100% protection, but so it is harder to get some sensitive data from a user of a social network.
